The Cords

Side Effects Of The Cords

Magic Intoxication

Magic intoxication is when an individual experiences a level of magic beyond what they are capable of processing or casting. This commonly occurs when an individual casts an ancient spell scroll far beyond their level (at least 3 levels above), or when they are exposed to extreme magical power (when first forming a pact with a powerful magical entity). Magical intoxication is similar to alcohol intoxication and typically lasts a few hours (at most) before the individual enters withdrawal.

The symptoms of Magic Intoxication are:

  • hypersensitivity
  • sensory hallucinations
  • unorthodox cravings
  • judgement impairment
  • lower inhibitions

The symptoms of Magic Intoxication withdrawal are:

  • headache
  • nausea and vomiting
  • fatigue
  • weakness
  • irritability
  • muscle aches

Magic Drainage

Magic drainage can range from a temporary loss of magical connection to a complete loss of magical connection. This occurs when an individual is separated from their cords, even for a brief period of time. The duration of separation determines how long the magical drainage lasts; an individual separated for a few seconds will recover their magical connection in an hour, but an individual separated for longer than three days will lose their magical connection entirely (even if reconnected to the Cords).

The symptoms of Magic Drainage are:

  • unorthodox cravings
  • feeling like you're starving (even when you're not)
  • impaired sensation
  • fever
  • shortness of breath
