The Cord

Observation Centres

Only three Observation Centres exist in the world, each containing a macro-AI that surpasses the micro-AI of the Mother Trees. Colloquially, Observation Centres are dubbed "Serv" by The Cord, a name they have retained long after the Cord's extinction.

Structure

Observation centres were designed to have a team of engineers working inside them for maintenance and monitoring. Each Serv has living quarters to accommodate organic beings, and the interior is designed to be easily navigated, with walkways, ladders and staircases that assist navigation and maintenance. Despite their major purpose, Servs are small, with most of their space dedicated to their computer cores. Servs are not designed to terraform planets, acting solely as monitoring stations.

Living quarters consist of a main area, with a circular table, round chairs, an open-concept kitchen, and a second-story loft using a large net to see out of viewports displaying cameras across the continent. There are individual crew quarters that have a bunk, dresser and desk, as well as communal showers and washrooms. Food is grown in the low-gravity greenhouse that allows crops to grow from floor to ceiling. Data collected from other terraforming systems is displayed in the computer hub, with a large table that projects a holographic image of scans.

Intelligence

Macro-AIs are capable of governing smaller-form micro-AIs and infrastructure on a grander scale. Each Serv governs a set of fifteen Mother Trees, as well as smaller form terraforming devices that regulate aspects of the Genesis Project, such as atmosphere and water quality. Unlike their micro counterparts, macro-AIs did not degrade drastically over time and have retained the majority of their functioning. However, when parts are separated from the macro-AI, they begin to degrade at a rapid pace (one such part was the data core responsible for the Chrysalis Virus).

Each Serv has a distinct AI fully equipped with sentience and speech. As they are linked to the stations they're monitoring, they can observe developing species and learn the native languages. Unfortunately, they only have a voice inside their own body, as they cannot access the speakers of other terraforming stations. While they can contact Mother Trees, they are the only AI that hasn't degraded over time, leaving them isolated. This isolation has "degraded" them in similar manners to an isolated humanoid, causing symptoms of psychosis, making Servs dangerous and unpredictable.
