Werebeast Traits
Common Traits
Accelerated Healing
Werebeasts are able to survive even near-fatal injuries thanks to their accelerated healing factor. The Cords pulse strongly around them, intent on keeping them alive as they are perceived as protectors of the Cords. Werebeast blood can even be used to heal others by smearing it across the injury. The Cords are attracted to the blood and temporarily identify the injured body as the same being as the werebeast.
Enhanced Endurance
All werebeasts have increased stamina, speed and agility, allowing them to move more swiftly through urban and rural areas. No terrain is too difficult for them.
Shapeshifting
Werebeasts are able to shift at will a few times a day. As they get more experienced, they are able to shift more times, going from three times to six times to even thirty times - though most werebeasts spend the majority of their time in their preferred form (be it humanoid or beast).
Werebeasts shift automatically when Donono and its moon-moon eclipse each other and cannot shift back until a day has passed. So far, there is no explanation as to why this occurs, though it is believed that the moons affect the Cords, as moons are also responsible for the Dranostwin. During this involuntary shift, werebeasts are more feral, escaping to nature and keeping within the company of their pack (if they have one).
When shifting, their clothes pull into their body, disappearing under their thick layer of fur. Current scientific advancements of the 4000s are unable to explain what truly happens to their clothes; beyond that, they remain intact when the werebeast transforms back.
Rare Traits
Super Strength
Some werebeasts double in strength when transformed. They are then able to carry smaller creatures on their back with ease or take down something much larger than themself.
Growth
Werebeasts grow 0.3x their height after becoming infected. When they transform, they grow an extra 0.3x.
Pain Transference
Werebeasts are able to use the Cords to take the pain away from another. Instead, they experience the pain for them, able to endure more pain than others due to their enhanced endurance and accelerated healing.
Other Traits
Growth Spurt
When the individual is initially infected, their height increases by 3% of their original height. Their body mass increases accordingly.
Special Skill
Each werebeast has a skill specific to their animal that they gain when infected. Wolves and Bears gain heightened smell and hearing; Bats gain echolocation; Cats gain the ability to see in the dark.
Packs
Werebeasts live in packs, regardless of the animals they shift into. These packs typically have three to six members, who spend all their time together, regardless of where they live. Packs hunt together, spend eclipses together, and have deep social bonds with each other. Not all pack members have romantic connections with their fellow pack members, and family bonds are more likely to form, with pack members preferring to fall in love with outsiders, bringing them into the pack. If packs include kids, all members help to rear them.
Weaknesses
Silver
Werebeasts can only be killed when using silver, as silver hinders their accelerated healing.
Mortality
Werebeasts are not immortal. Their lifespans are lengthened by a third of their original lifespan, but otherwise, they can be killed and die of natural causes. However, the werebeasts' accelerated healing makes killing them exceptionally difficult as they can heal quickly from near-fatal injuries.
Blood
Blood ignites the animalistic instincts in werebeasts. If they catch a whiff of blood they have a hard time controlling their urges to shift and hunt the wounded prey - even if that prey is their friend. While some werebeasts can control this urge, if they are starving, they are almost incapable of stopping themself from feasting on the wounded "prey." Blood can thus be used to drive werebeasts insane, turning them into cruel hunting machines. This practice is often done by slavers.
Pack members do not have this effect on each other.
